Matthias has over 20 years of experience in the design, engineering, and deployment of database and analytics technology. He spent the first 15 years of his career in California, 1 year at Informix as a Data Warehouse Performance Engineer before joining the Db2 engineering team at the IBM Silicon Valley Lab in San Jose, CA.
At IBM, Matthias was involved in the design and architecture of core Db2 capabilities such as columnar data storage, time travel, semi-structured data support, query optimization, OLTP, and others. During that time Matthias also worked with numerous IBM clients around the world to support Db2 deployments and solution design.
In late 2015 Matthias relocated back to Germany to manage IBM Sales Engineering for databases and data science across Europe. In that capacity he worked with his team on Db2 and Netezza opportunities as well as data science and data lake engagements, in the cloud and on-premise.
Matthias joined Snowflake in May 2021 as a Principal Data Platform Architect. Hi focus is on Data Applications and Data Warehouse Modernization.
